Two-Day Interactive Training Program For Health Policymakers, Managers and Professionals
Professor Robin Gauld

Professor ROBIN GAULD was Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Commerce) and Dean, Otago Business School, 2016-Feb 2023. Under his leadership, Otago Business School rose to #1 in New Zealand for research, developed innovative new degrees, increased engagement with industry, and gained elite five-year EQUIS reaccreditation and AACSB reaccreditation. Previously, he was Head of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at the Otago Medical School, where he was based for 20 years following a PhD in public administration from the University of Hong Kong and an academic appointment at City University of Hong Kong. In 2018, he was awarded a Doctor of Commerce (DCom) by Victoria University of Wellington for research on health care governance. Professor Gauld now works between the Otago Business and Medical Schools. He is Co-Director, Centre for Health Systems and Technology which spans the Otago Business and Medical Schools. He was 2014 NZ-UK Link Foundation Visiting Professor, University of London; a Commonwealth Fund Harkness Fellow in 2008-09 at Boston and Harvard universities and is a lifelong Harkness Senior Fellow; Senior Fellow at the Boston University Health Policy Institute from 2009-13; and from 2013-2017, was founding Independent Chair of Alliance South which brought together clinical leaders and managers to focus on ‘whole of system’ approaches to care improvement in New Zealand’s Southern region.
From 2020-22, he was President of the 140-member Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools.He is an elected Director of Business South. Professor Gauld has authored over 180 peer-reviewed journal articles, 40 book chapters and several books including The New Health Policy (Open University Press, 2009) which was awarded First Prize in category at the 2010 British Medical Association Medical Book Awards, and Dangerous Enthusiasms: E-Government, Computer Failure and Information System Development (2006; co-authored with Shaun Goldfinch) which has been widely-used globally including in key reading lists at Harvard Kennedy School of Government. His most recent book is the co-edited Health Systems in Developing Counties in Asia (Routledge, 2017). He sits on leading journal boards including Health Policy, Government Information Quarterly, Health Expectations, Journal of Health Organization and Management, and International Journal of Information Management. Professor Gauld has taught medical and healthcare students, health leaders and professionals on a range of topics. He has worked in multiple countries and is an internationally recognized authority on health systems, leadership, and management.
